Welcome Message

Jeffrey L. Duerk

Welcome to the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Whether you are a student, faculty or staff member, or other member of our ’Canes family, we are here to ensure your experience at the University of Miami is exceptional.

As a proud double alumnus, I have long recognized there is no place like the University of Miami. It’s why I chose to pursue my career here as a public health researcher, educator, and administrator. In South Florida—the epicenter of cultural exchange, tech innovation, and global enterprise—we have all the pieces of the puzzle required to do pioneering work that transforms societies around the world.

As the University’s chief academic officer, I am committed to helping our faculty members leverage the opportunities of our region to create new knowledge and, even more important, teach their discoveries to the next generation of thinkers, creators, changemakers, and entrepreneurs. The stellar work of our faculty, who are leaders in their field and in the classroom, is a key reason why the University was invited to join the prestigious Association of American Universities.

Our AAU membership opens new doors for data sharing and networking among America’s most advanced research institutions. We will take full advantage of these resources, along with our own diversity of talents, to fortify our engagement in collaborative scholarship. We are building new academies, institutes, and programs that expand the pathways by which we connect our kaleidoscope of identities and experiences throughout our campuses into a fertile environment for bold ideas. Our students are not only the beneficiaries of our advances in teaching and research, they are significant contributors to all we accomplish—and they remain at the core of everything we do.

Please don’t hesitate to contact our office if we can provide service that enhances your success. I look forward to what the future holds for you, for the U, and for the communities we serve.
