OIC History

  • March 2014- University senior administrators forms the Culture Leadership Team to coordinate efforts on improving the culture at UM.
  • September 2014 - Common Purpose and DIRECCT values are defined
  • Fall 2015 - Workshops are offered for leaders and staff to disseminate information on the culture transformation process
  • January 2016 - President Julio Frenk announces the Culture of Belonging roadmap initiative at his inauguration
  • February 2016 - Isaac Prilleltensky is named vice provost for institutional culture and the Office of Institutional Culture is formed
  • November 2016 - Isaac Prilleltensky is named accountable lead for the Culture of Belonging initiative
The Office of Institutional Culture promotes practices and behaviors that uphold a culture of belonging among students, faculty, and staff of the University of Miami. Our goals include: 
  • Coordinating existing initiatives that align with the university's efforts to enhance its culture
  • Consulting with individual departments or units within the university on efforts to establish a culture of belonging
  • Creating recognition tools for university employees and students
  • Hosting workshops or activities that reinforce the university's DIRECCT values, service standards, or leadership expectations
  • Developing tools to measure student perceptions of a culture of belonging at the university
